Job Description

Western Branch Baptist is seeking an individual to serve as our Worship Leader & Music Director. This person will lead in the development of a music ministry that glorifies the Lord, makes disciples, and leads people to worship the Lord. This person would be under the supervision of the Pastor and would assist in carrying out our mission of glorifying God and making disciples through the music ministry.

  • Must have musical ability, outgoing personality, enthusiasm and gift to lead the music ministry.
  • Must have a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a growing personal relationship with Him.
  • Must have a heart to lead a multi-generational congregation in Christ-centered, blended worship.
  • Ability to read and direct music.
  • Proficiency in playing the piano.
  • In conjunction with the Pastor, plan worship services with songs that are doctrinally sound, theologically rich, and exalting to Jesus.
Ministry Responsibilities
  • Plan weekly worship music for choir and congregation. Our desire is to have a blended style of worship. We want to preserve the traditional hymns, while at the same time, introduce our congregation to the wealth of modern hymns and praise songs that are biblically sound and theologically rich and that glorify our God.
  • Lead the congregational singing on Sundays.
  • Direct the choir and practice weekly. Practices are usually held on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:00p.m. When preparing for Christmas or Easter Musicals it may be necessary to either lengthen practices or schedule additional practices.
  • Schedule special music for Sunday services. It will be the Music Directors responsibility to plan the choir specials and any other special singing.
  • Plan and prepare Christmas and Easter cantatas. This involves the selection and ordering of all materials needed.
  • Serve as the Music representative on the Board of Directors- The Board of Directors is comprised of the leaders of the main ministries within the church. The Board meets quarterly to discuss calendar planning, review upcoming events, and perform ministry evaluations.
  • Attend Church-wide functions- Throughout the year events are scheduled for the purpose of outreach, promote church unity, fellowship, etc... Some such events are VBS, Trunk-or-Treat, Lottie Moon Auction, etc... It is expected that staff will make every effort to attend and support these events.
  • Ensure maintenance of equipment. The Music Director will be responsible for scheduling the tuning of the piano at least twice yearly. If a need arises with the sound system, it will be the Music Directors responsibility to ensure that someone is contacted and scheduled for necessary repairs.
  • Oversee the Music Ministry budget. The Music Director will develop and submit a yearly budget to the Stewardship Committee. The Music Director will oversee the use of this budget and give the approval for any spending. It is also the Music Directors responsibility to order any materials needed for the Music Ministry.
  • Submit weekly Order of Worship. The Music Director will submit the weekly Order of Worship to the church Secretary by Thursday of each week in order to be included in the Worship Bulletin.
  • Vacation Bible School. Vacation Bible School is usually held the 2nd week of July from 6:00-8:00p.m. The Music Director will be responsible for the music portion of VBS and the closing ceremony. The Music Director is free to assign this role to a layperson or fulfill these responsibilities themselves. In either case, it is our desire that the Music Director still participate in VBS in a leadership role.
  • Office Hours. There are no required office hours, but realize that it will require 12-15 hours per week (Including Sunday Mornings and Wednesday Evenings).
