Performs difficult professional work providing teaching services in a specialized subject or assigned group of subjects, motivating students to develop skill in assigned subject matters; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the School Principal.
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels;
visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
- Teaching specialized subject matter(s), motivating students to achieve maximum potential.
- Develop lesson plans and use of instructional materials;
- Translate lesson plans into learning experiences;
- Integrate subject area content and technology;
- Instruct students in area(s) of specialization and subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district;
- Establish standards of behavior;
- Adapt teaching materials and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students;
- Develop standards for critical analysis through group discussions;
- Encourage students to think independently, develop and express original ideas;
- Evaluate students' progress, maintain appropriate records, prepare progress reports;
- Communicate with students, student counselors and parents through conferences and other means;
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education and self-selected professional books and growth activities;
- Establish a class environment favorable to learning;
- Administer standardized tests in accordance with the established procedures;
- Identify student needs; assist with assessment of needs;
- Select and requisition books and instructional materials;
- Participate in child study, Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP) meetings;
- Participate in curriculum development programs, faculty committees and student activity sponsorship as required;
- Perform related tasks as required.

Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of subject(s) taught; thorough knowledge of secondary education principles, practices and procedures; thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching; thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students and parents;
ability to operate a personal computer.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in area of specialization or an acceptable field.
Special RequirementsEligible a Virginia teaching license with appropriate endorsement.

Terms of Employment- Salary Range: $60,000 - $93,446 ($2,944 Additional for Master’s Degree)
