Job Description

POSITION TITLE

GRANT FUNDED - PROJECT LEAD THE WAY-MATH TEACHER GRADES 6-8 ($10,000 stipend for the duration of the grant)

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

Performs difficult professional work providing teaching services in a specialized subject or assigned group of subjects, motivating students to develop skill in assigned subject matters; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the School Principal.

This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels;

visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Some teaching specialties (i.e. music, art, physical education, etc.) may require hearing, vision, physical coordination and/or exertion and effort in excess of those listed above.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates them into effective learning experiences.
  • Integrates subject area content and technology.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of behavior.
  • Adapts teaching materials and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students.
  • Design and facilitate project-based and problem-based learning experiences aligned with the PLTW curriculum.
  • Guide students through the engineering design process, encouraging creativity, innovation, and critical thinking.
  • Implement hands-on STEM activities and collaborative projects that integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
  • Differentiate instruction to ensure equitable access and engagement for all learners.
  • Create a student-centered learning environment that encourages inquiry, experimentation, and risk-taking.
  • Facilitate team-based learning, helping students develop communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Promote a growth mindset and perseverance through iterative design and problem-solving challenges.
  • Implement and maintain Project Lead the Way curriculum with fidelity while incorporating innovative instructional strategies.
  • Integrate technology, engineering tools, and digital platforms to support design, modeling, and problem solving.
  • Maintain materials, equipment, and resources necessary to support hands-on STEM learning.
  • Assess student learning through performance-based assessments, design challenges, and project presentations.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and reflection opportunities that help students refine ideas and improve designs.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, maintain appropriate records, prepare progress reports and use data to inform instruction and improve learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with math, science, and CTE teachers to integrate interdisciplinary STEM concepts.
  • Participate in professional learning and PLTW training to remain current with instructional practices and curriculum updates.
  • Contribute to the growth of STEM initiatives, including competitions, showcases, or community STEM events.
  • Help students explore STEM careers and pathways through project applications and real-world problem solving.
  • Support partnerships with local business, industry, or community organizations when possible.
  • Assist with STEM showcases, exhibitions, or student presentations of projects.
  • Participates in curriculum development programs, faculty committees and student activity sponsorship as required.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with the established procedures.
  • Identifies student needs; assists with assessment of needs.
  • Participates in child study, Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP) meetings.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
