Special Education Teacher - General Curriculum
Starting Date: Immediately
Responsibilities- Teaching students with disabilities; motivating students to achieve maximum potential.
- Assesses and evaluates needs of students.
- Develops individualized educational programs and lesson plans.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experience based on needs and abilities of students.
- Provides instruction in individual or group sessions.
- Formulates and implements functional behavior assessment and behavior assessment plan.
- Participates in child study meetings.
- Evaluates students' progress, maintains appropriate records, prepares progress reports.
- Maintains professional competence through inservice education and self-selected professional books and instructional materials.
- Establishes a class environment favorable to learning.
- Administers standardized tests in accordance with established procedures.
- Adopts teaching materials and methods to match the learning style of the student.
- Integrates subject area content with technology.
- Selects and requisitions books and instructional materials.
- Participates in curriculum development programs, faculty committees and student activity sponsorship as required.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of special education and specialty area; thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of students with disabilities; thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students and parents;
ability to operate a personal computer.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in an acceptable field.
Special RequirementsEligible for a Virginia teaching license with appropriate endorsement.
Salary$60,000 to $93,446 Per Year
