perform professional teaching work in a specialized subject or assigned group of subjects, motivating students to develop skill in assigned subject matters; coordinate with school principal for regular supervision.
work is light but requires frequent and occasional physical activity, including standing, walking, reaching, lifting, and moving objects.
responsibilities- establish a flexible middle school instructional program and class environment favorable to learning; teach a broad range of subjects or specialized subject matter(s), motivating students to achieve maximum potential.
- develop lesson plans and use instructional materials.
- translate lesson plans into engaging learning experiences.
- integrate subject area content and technology.
- instruct students in area(s) of specialization and subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations.
- establish and maintain standards of behavior.
- adapt teaching materials and methods, develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students.
- develop standards for critical analysis through group discussions.
- encourage students to think independently, develop and express original ideas.
- evaluate student progress, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
- communicate with students, student counselors, and parents through conferences and other means.
- maintain professional competence through in‑service education and self‑selected professional books and growth activities.
- select and requisition books and instructional materials.
- participate in curriculum development programs, faculty committees, and student activity sponsorship as required.
- administer standardized tests in accordance with established procedures.
- identify student needs and assist with assessment of needs.
- participate in child study, individual education plan (iep) and behavioral intervention plan (bip) meetings.
- perform related tasks as required.
thorough knowledge of subject(s) taught and middle school education principles, practices, and procedures.
ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior, deliver articulate oral presentations, write reports, and establish effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents.
proficiency in operating a personal computer.
education and experiencegraduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in area of specialization or an acceptable field.
special requirementseligible for a virginia teaching license with appropriate endorsement.
