Part-Time Teacher Development Mentor
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate recently retired teacher or teacher who has recently stepped out of education to serve as a Part-Time Teacher Development Mentor. This role involves providing guidance, support, and resources to newly hired teachers as they transition into their roles, fostering a positive and productive teaching environment. Additionally, this position will support teachers in both elementary and secondary schools.
Responsibilities- Offer one-on-one mentoring to new teachers, sharing best practices, instructional strategies, and classroom management techniques.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to help teachers refine their skills.
- Assist in developing and facilitating professional development.
- Provide encouragement and emotional support, helping teachers navigate the challenges of their role.
- Collaborate with school administration, school-base lead mentor, and other staff to ensure teachers have access to necessary resources and networks of support.
- Share teaching materials, instructional strategies and other resources that promote effective teaching practices.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Teacher Development Specialist and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
- Recent retirement or leave from a teacher of record position with a minimum of 8 years of classroom teaching experience.
- Strong knowledge of current educational practices and standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A passion for teaching and a desire to support the next generation of educators.
- In-depth knowledge of instructional best practices and adult learning theory.
- Previous experience in mentoring or coaching.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
- Must have any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Successful prior teaching experience as the teacher of record for the appropriate grade levels is required.
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Travel to multiple district buildings daily.
- Must possess your own vehicle.
- Must hold a professional license or be eligible to teach in the Commonwealth of Virginia with an appropriate endorsement.
- Must have at least eight (8) years of successful experience as the teacher of record.
- Must possess in-depth knowledge of current instructional strategies.
- Must have a valid driving license.
- Must possess their own vehicle.
