Location: Hillpoint Elementary, Suffolk, Virginia

Position

Purpose:

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

• Participates as a member of a team to develop and implement a support framework for achievement.
• Analyzes test data to determine benchmarks, establish goals, and monitor improvement in identified schools.
• Provides ongoing classroom observation and teacher feedback.
• Models effective classroom instruction.
• Coaches teachers on instructional performance.
• Meets regularly with building administrators and classroom teachers regarding classroom practices, and provides ongoing feedback.
• Attends professional development activities to maintain knowledge of coaching skills and content knowledge.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with teachers and administrators.

Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities and is not meant to be all-inclusive.

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

• Thorough knowledge of Virginia Standards of Learning and related assignments.
• Experience in leading school activities and committees beyond classroom responsibilities.
• In-depth knowledge of instructional best practices and adult learning theory.
• Effective instructional delivery techniques and ability to guide and train teachers.
• Proficiency with computer network systems and software applications.
• Ability to organize and coordinate work.
• Effective communication with students and parents.
• Engagement in self-evaluation for performance and professional growth.
• Capability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Works in standard office and school building environments.

• Professional license in Virginia or eligibility to teach with appropriate endorsement.
• At least three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience.
• In-depth knowledge of current instructional strategies.

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels is a plus.

• Salary Range: $60,000 – $94,135 per year ($2,944.00 additional for Master’s Degree). Salary subject to change based on final Virginia General Assembly action and City of Suffolk appropriations.
• Contract: 10‑month employment.
• Benefits: Paid retirement, life insurance, contribution to medical insurance, personal leave and sick leave.
