About Nansemond-Suffolk Academy
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy (NSA) is an independent, coeducational, college-preparatory day school serving students from age 2 through Grade 12. With approximately 900 students and 165 employees across two campuses in Suffolk, Virginia, NSA is a close-knit community grounded in our core value;

What You'll Do
As our College Counselor, you will provide highly personalized guidance to students and families throughout the college search and application process while serving as a trusted member of the Upper School team. You will work closely with students in grades 9–12, helping them identify colleges that align with their interests, talents, and goals while providing academic guidance throughout their Upper School experience.
More importantly, you will:
- Build strong relationships with students and families through individualized college counseling
- Guide students through every stage of the college application process, including essays, applications, recommendations, and deadlines
- Partner with families to provide clear communication and thoughtful guidance throughout the admissions process
- Advise students on course selection, academic planning, and standardized testing
- Write compelling counselor recommendations that reflect each student's strengths and character
- Coordinate college visits, information sessions, and educational programs for students and parents
- Develop relationships with college admissions representatives through campus visits, conferences, and professional organizations
- Coordinate the PSAT, practice ACT, AP Exams, NCAA eligibility process, and the Upper School Profile
- Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and the College Counseling team to provide exceptional support for every student
- Assist with scholarship opportunities, graduation preparations, and other responsibilities that celebrate student achievement
What We're Looking For
We're searching for someone who combines expertise in college admissions with a genuine passion for mentoring young people. Our ideal candidate:
- Holds a bachelor's degree (master's degree preferred)
- Possesses extensive knowledge of the college admissions landscape and current admissions trends
- Demonstrates experience with Scoir and is proficient with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and presentation technology (Blackbaud experience is a plus)
- Builds authentic relationships with students, families, college admissions professionals, and colleagues
- Is an exceptional writer and communicator
- Is organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines
- Brings professionalism, flexibility, compassion, and a sense of humor to the role
- Has an interest in teaching, coaching, or sponsoring student activities (preferred)

Compensation & Benefits
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy offers a competitive salary ranging from $55,000–$70,000 , commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, retirement, disability, and life insurance.
