Workplace Health & Safety Specialist (WHSS)
Join Amazon’s mission to become Earth’s safest place to work! As a Workplace Health & Safety Specialist, you will lead safety initiatives across a global operation, protecting employees and ensuring a safe work environment.
Core Impact Areas- Safety Program Excellence & Implementation: Drive comprehensive safety programs through data‑driven strategies, lead safety audits, incident investigations, risk assessments, create training, and champion continuous improvement.
- Associate Advocacy & Cultural Leadership: Serve as a trusted safety advisor, build partnerships across all levels, communicate effectively, coach associates, transform safety data into narratives, and influence behavioral change.
- Lift up to 49 pounds and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.
- Stand or walk for up to 12 hours during shifts.
- Work in environments where noise level varies and temperature is variable; delivery stations may include outside loading departments.
- Continuously climb and descend stairs (applies to sites with stairs).
- Provide care delivery in emergencies and assist emergency response at the site.
Must be available to work flexible shifts including days, nights, and/or weekends.
Current First Aid and CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required. If not certified at application time, certification must be obtained within three weeks of start date.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year in an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) related field, or a Bachelor’s degree in an EHS‑relevant background, or 6 months experience in a safety‑related role within Amazon.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, specifically 29 CFR 1910.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience maintaining confidentiality involving security or personnel issues.
- Strong communication, teamwork, analysis, judgment, and customer focus skills.
- Experience leading and managing a team and analyzing accident data, new processes, and machinery for safety concerns; conduct job hazard and job safety analyses.
- Experience in emergency response and currently holds First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Experience in workers’ compensation case management.

Compensation and BenefitsBase hourly rate ranges from $27.00 to $33.00 in VA, Suffolk. Total compensation includes sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Benefits include health insurance, dental, vision, prescription, life insurance, EAP, mental health support, medical advice line, flexible spending accounts, adoption and surrogacy reimbursement, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
