ASE is looking for an Environmental, Health and Safety Inspector to work in Suffolk, VA. The EH&S Inspector is responsible for promoting an Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) stewardship throughout the company while inspecting and providing EH&S guidance and support to the workforce. Supports the development of EH&S programs and projects. Ensures that the company maintains compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations.
Promotes a total EH&S culture of ownership and accountability for the safety of all workers and protection of the environment. Supports and commits to the organizational and company’s mission, vision, and values. Responsible for ensuring that all safety legislation is adhered to, and policies and practices are followed. Implement, monitor, and review the protective and preventative measures that companies are required or choose to follow, and work to minimize operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents, and injuries.
Carrying out risk assessments and considering how risks could be reduced. Carrying out daily site inspections to ensure that policies and procedures are being properly implemented and maintained.
Travel: 50% travel required within and outside of the continental United States.

ResponsibilitiesConduct daily inspections of assigned areas ensuring that all operations follow Federal, State, and local regulations and Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) policies and procedures; identify EH&S hazards or deficiencies and initiate corrective action through project supervision.
Prepare written reports on inspection results (compliant and non-compliant), certifications, accidents, injuries and illnesses investigations, and employee complaints or concerns.
Establish a close working relationship and communicate with customer-assigned safety representatives and department/ship managers regularly.
Conduct and document daily safety walkthrough inspections of assigned project.
Daily walkthroughs will be coordinated with the applicable customer representative as required.
Safety walks of the work site(s) ensure company compliance with environmental, health and safety hazards.
Conducts daily inspections of Vessel’s confined spaces.
Certifies confined space entry onboard the Vessel.
Keep certificates and records maintained following regulated standards.
Inspects and maintains fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and ear plug dispensing stations.
Maintains MSDS/SDS sheets for assigned contract availabilities in progress.
Maintains and obtains paint and other installation samples and lab analysis results per assigned availabilities.
Conduct breathing air surveillance inspections.
Able to calibrate, use, and operate Air Sampling instruments/meters as needed.
Ensure inspection of scaffolding systems daily before commencement of work.
Conduct Industrial lift Equipment spot checks for licenses and ODCL (Operator Daily Check List) completion.
Helps create and edit new work instructions, procedures, or training materials and participates in training events (leading and attending).
Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years waterfront Maritime Safety Industry experience.
Bachelor’s Degree may be substituted with a completed Maritime Trade School/Apprenticeship with 5 years waterfront Maritime Safety Industry OR 4 years military service with specialized training and certifications in Maritime Safety Industry.
Bachelor’s Degree/Trade School/Military Service may be substituted with GED minimal education and specialized training and certifications in Maritime Safety Industry with 8 years total waterfront experience with 5 years Maritime Safety Industry experience.
Formal job training and three years' experience in the Maritime Safety Industry.
DoD Secret clearance (or ability to obtain and maintain a clearance. Must be able to obtain a CAC card.
Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
