About us

Britten Pears Arts (BPA) is a pioneering Music & Arts based charity, situated on the beautiful Suffolk coast, working across a wide range of activities. Music-related charitable work includes Artist Development, a year-round Performance Programme, Music in the Community and Creative Health and our Living Heritage Museum and Archive at The Red House. Together, these activities uphold the artistic legacy of our founders and continue their mission to make the arts useful and accessible to all.

The Aldeburgh Festival, founded in 1948 by composer Benjamin Britten and his life partner Peter Pears, remains one of the most distinctive and celebrated classical music festivals in the world. Every June, it brings together new commissions, world premieres and internationally acclaimed artists on the stretch of Suffolk coastline that so deeply inspired Britten and Pears. This year, we will be celebrating our 77th Festival and our 67th year of the Hesse Scheme.

Alongside our existing Hesse Scheme, we are inviting applications from those with a love for music to join us as an Artist Liaison. Whether you are a student, a recent graduate, or someone with an interest in forging a career in the arts, this role offers a unique opportunity to gain invaluable experience at a world-renowned Festival within a leading arts, music and heritage organisation.

The position runs from Wednesday 10 June to Monday 29 June 2026, and there is an expectation that applicants will be available for the entirety of this period.

Role Description

The Artist Liaison Team consists of three members who operate at the heart of the Festival’s artist‑related logistics. A small number of artists will be assigned to you, and you will act as their dedicated liaison throughout their time with us. Supervised by both the Performance Programme and Festival Transport teams, you will help ensure that every artist feels welcome and that their logistical needs are met so that they can focus on delivering their best work.

As an ambassador for BPA, the role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive, respectful relationships with a wide range of people, including artists, agents, external venue staff and internal BPA teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the first point of contact for the artists assigned to you
  • Welcome artists and guests to venues including Snape Maltings and The Red House, providing a great visitor experience
  • Efficiently coordinate ground‑transfer schedules for your assigned artists, covering most of the required driving, including transport to/from rail stations, accommodation, performance venues and rehearsal spaces
  • Work with the Performance Programme team to compile and distribute artist schedules and other resources as necessary
  • Help artists source technical assistance, other information and day‑to‑day requests as required
  • Liaise with the music programme team to provide up‑to‑date information about the Festival to your artists
  • Liaise with the marketing and production teams to learn more about the events throughout Festival
  • Liaise with concert management staff to ensure events run smoothly
  • Attend development functions/interval receptions/dinners, ensuring the artists feel comfortable in the environment
  • Represent BPA’s values

Your hours will be scheduled by the Performance Programme and Festival Transport teams, however, the role will involve working outside of normal office hours – including some early mornings and late evening finishes. We will always make sure you are well supported and able to take appropriate breaks.

Skills and Experience
  • Aged 21 or over, with a full, clean UK driving licence
  • Confident using a Satnav and driving with passengers
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work well within a team
  • Experience working with customers or in a people‑facing role
  • An interest in pursuing a career in the arts
  • Competent with Microsoft Suite
