Position Description & Qualifications Serco is seeking an experienced Principal Military Trainer - Air Operations Exercise Planner with prior Air Operations Center (AOC) experience to support Tier 1 Combatant Command joint exercises. You will join a dynamic team supporting the Joint Staff in Suffolk, Virginia. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside other professionals committed to enhancing military operational readiness through Collective Joint Training (CJT).
An active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret/SCI clearance. In this role, you will:
* Lead a working group through detailed planning, integration, and execution of exercise air missions supporting Tier 1 Combatant Command exercises.
* Translate strategic objectives into executable air tasking concepts, campaign phasing, and operational timelines.
* Direct targeting, force allocation, and air apportionment planning efforts during exercise design and execution.
* Develop realistic adversary air campaign plans, incorporating Opposing Force (OPFOR) tactics, and air threat integration.
* Construct and maintain accurate air Orders of Battle (OOB) for U.S., allied / partner, and adversary forces.
* Analyze operational environments, emerging threats, and adversary air capabilities to inform scenario realism.
* Serve as Office of Primary Responsibility (OPR) for air operations planning functions in major exercises and campaign simulations.
* Provide subject matter expertise on air superiority operations, counter-air strategy, and adversary air tactics.
* Provide expert advice on adversary air capabilities, air superiority operations, and effective counter tactics to shape training objectives and exercise outcomes.
* Brief senior leadership and provide project status updates throughout the Joint Exercise Life Cycle (JELC). To be successful in this role, you will have:
* A U.S. citizenship.
* An active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret/SCI clearance.
* A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years of joint operational experience,
* or Master's degree with a minimum of 6 years of joint operational experience.
* A minimum of 3 years of experience on a 3-star or 4-star Joint or Service Headquarters staff or civilian equivalent.
* To be highly knowledgeable about deploying and employing joint forces in concert with other instruments of national power.
* A thorough understanding of operational-level joint operations planning and execution.
* Familiarity with JELC, Universal Joint Task List (UJTL), and MSEL processes.
* Intermediate Service School graduate.
* A current or be able to obtain a valid U.S. Passport.
* To be able to work on-site in Suffolk, Virginia.
* To be willing and able to travel (up to 25% of the time).
* Prior operational experience in an Air Operations Center (AOC) (Combat Plans, Combat Operations, Strategy Division, ISR Division, or equivalent Navy Air or Air Force Air Operations Center experience).
* A strong understanding of joint operational planning and execution.
* Excellent analytical, writing, and presentation skills.
* The ability to collaborate and work closely with senior military and civilian leaders.
* A deep familiarity with joint and multinational training and exercises. Additional desired experience and skills:
* An active U.S. DoD Top Secret / SCI security clearance.
* Joint Forces Staff College or JPME II graduate.
* Senior Service School graduate.
* Operational experience working with General Officer / Flag Officer / Senior Executive Service (SES) leaders.
* Joint training or exercise experience.
* Experience with operational planning efforts at the operational and strategic levels.
