Communications Lead Operator Hall Washington

Under limited general supervision, performs supervisory and radio and communications duties in the communications division of the City Police Department on an assigned shift. Work involves supervising and participating in receipt of incoming calls to the Police Department, Fire Department, and rescue services; dispatching emergency response personnel or other emergency response agencies (i.e. Public Works, Virginia Power, Virginia Department of Transportation, etc.);

and operating a computer terminal connected to the Virginia Criminal Information Network and the National Crime Information Center. Employee must exercise considerable tact and firmness in obtaining information from distressed persons. Reports to the Public Safety Answering Point Manager.

Three (3) consecutive years as a Communications Operator with the Suffolk Police Department by the date that the written test is administered; or two (2) years as Senior Communications Operator with the Suffolk Police Department by the date that the written test is administered.

Candidates must meet the following requirements at the time of application, and maintain them throughout the promotional process:

• Minimum of Satisfactory on each annual evaluation for the previous two (2) calendar years;
• No suspensions or demotions within the past two (2) years;
• No more than one (1) written reprimand in the past two (2) years, excluding City vehicle accidents;
• No more than two (2) preventable City vehicle accidents in the past two (2) years;

If promoted to the position, must be willing to complete the Suffolk Leadership Academy program within one year from the date of promotion.
