Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Radiographer - Radiology - Per Diem - Radiology-Diagnostic - Per Diem - 09:00 AM - 05:00 PM.

In this role, the successful candidate provides health care services by applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. Responsible for radiology student supervision and evaluation for students assigned to them. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics.

Performs tasks efficiently, responsibly and with care to meet the needs of patients and staff, while showing respect for the specific needs of each patient, including age groups served and persons with disabilities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Operates X-ray equipment in accordance with state and federal codes.
    • The proper film, screen, film holders and grids.
    • The appropriate SID.
    • Immobilization devices.
    • Correct exposure factors (utilizing optimum kVp).
    • Utilizes equipment within the recommended safety guidelines.
  • Positions patient for proper orientation of anatomy.
    • Aligns the center of the part to be demonstrated to the center of the film.
    • Sets the correct tube angle and uses the correct SID.
  • Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others by demonstrating radiographic evidence of collimation; the use of gonadal and lead shields; and the selection of proper exposure factors.
    • Identifies film and/or other identification by displaying right and left marker properly; utilizing accessory markers (e.g., minute, hours and directional); patient information and date displayed on all images.
  • Displays proper procedures for preparing, labeling and dispensing radiographic contrast media and the labeling of medications on the sterile field by:
    • Determines the need for oral and/or IV contrast media based on physician order and departmental protocols.
    • Selects the appropriate type of oral contrast media.
    • Prepares the oral contrast media based on departmental protocols.
    • Labels oral contrast media according to departmental policies.
    • Instructs the patient on proper ingestion.
    • Loads the power injector with the appropriate type and amount of IV contrast media per departmental protocols.
    • Labels all required medications on the sterile field as required by policy.
  • Evaluates requisition for patient identification, procedure to be performed, and chart or order checks.
    • Verifies pertinent clinical history and reason for exam and determines utilization of appropriate PPE (gloves, mask, gown, eye shields).
    • Reviews requests for pregnancy status where appropriate.
  • Provides patient care by verifying patient identification, introducing self to the patient, and explaining the procedure briefly.
    • Verifies patient is properly prepped for the exam; identifies any contraindications; provides appropriate assistance to the imaging table based on patient condition.
