1311 Human Resources Technician
Performs intermediate technical work involving the preparation and maintenance of personnel files and records and processing workers' compensation claims and related records; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Coordinator of Human Resources.
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels;
visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.

Prepares and maintains employee files, maintains record of years of experience for contracts;
Computes salaries for employee contracts;
Issues and explains contract and other paperwork to employees; completes and submits appropriate payroll forms;
Compiles and submits Professional Licensure forms, transcripts, etc. to acquire professional license;
Prepares and maintains salary, extra duty, supplement and other pay records;
Maintains employee records;
Paperwork for active/retired employees;
Verifies employment; processes leave of absence letters;
Assists teachers with course work requirements and maintains advanced degree records and files;
Fills out student deferment forms for teachers;
Prepares, reviews and maintains accident reports, identifies those with potential liability;
Establishes and maintains contact with employee, supervisor, payroll department, physician and/or hospital to obtain and document required information;
Processes claim forms with the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission;
Monitors on-going cases, reviews medical reports and bills, validates appropriate charges;
Codes, processes and files payments;
Prepares and maintains

Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of personnel policies and procedures relating to instructional and support employees;
General knowledge of the laws, regulations, practices and procedures relating to the review and processing of workers' compensation claims;
General knowledge of bookkeeping terminology and methods; thorough knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment; skill in the use of computer equipment; ability to maintain financial records and to prepare reports and statements;
Ability to make arithmetical computations quickly and accurately;
Ability to conduct personnel interviews and counsel employees;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in administrative support technology or related fields and considerable personnel and workers' compensation experience.
