Position Summary

Mission Technologies, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the Joint Training Synthetic Environment (JTSE) for the Joint Staff J7 (JS J-7) at the Suffolk, VA Joint Staff Complex. This role involves architecting advanced modeling and simulation capabilities, developing complex software frameworks, and delivering innovative solutions to Joint Operational Training Gaps (JOTGs) within a dynamic joint training environment.

What

You Will Do
  • Architect, plan, and strategize non-kinetic effects, federation threat injects, and para metrics solutions.
  • Develop and test software to support simulation frameworks including non-kinetic effects, threat injects, and para metrics.
  • Design and develop a white cell operational tool with an extensible framework (non-kinetic effects, federation management, reporting, troubleshooting, global viewer, and future capabilities).
  • Design, engineer, and integrate solutions addressing Joint Operational Training Gaps (JOTGs) as part of the JLVC Modernization Team.
  • Lead planning, execution, and delivery of large‑scale software projects, coordinating requirements, timelines, and cross‑functional resources.
  • Lead technical integration efforts across multiple modeling & simulation (M&S) domains, including areas like space M&S integration.
  • Coordinate technical approaches, status, and deliverables with Government leadership and military partners.
  • Evaluate industry tools, processes, and services for integration into JOTG solutions.
  • Architect scalable, flexible, and efficient solutions to meet JOTG requirements.
  • Provide on‑site or remote troubleshooting and technical support during integration, execution, and post‑exercise periods.
  • Support DoD cybersecurity best practices including STIGs, RMF compliance, and vulnerability scanning; assist with accreditation documentation.
  • Collaborate with TTB and JExD planners to understand exercise schedules and system requirements.
  • Participate in planning conferences, technical out‑briefs, and readiness reviews.
  • Document system and software configurations, changes, and incident resolutions clearly and consistently.
What You Must Have
  • 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.
  • Active DoD 8570 IAT Level II certifications (Security+, Linux+).
  • Must have an active Secret Clearance.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands‑on software development experience using C++ and Python.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and documentation skills.
  • Prior experience supporting live or simulated exercise environments.
  • Experience supporting classified enclaves, mission‑critical DoD systems, or exercise‑focused environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing Windows and Linux based systems.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper‑V.
  • Strong understanding of networking and DNS configurations.
  • Familiarity with DoD infrastructure such as JLVC, JTT, or other Joint Staff‑developed capabilities.
  • Knowledge of modeling & simulation environments or related tools.
Preferred Requirements
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced operational environment.
  • Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCNA Security, Network+, or Linux Network Professional.
  • Five or more years developing and integrating complex military systems in Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) environments.
  • Experience with LVC M&S toolsets – Run Time Infrastructure – scalable (RTI‑S), Joint Simulation Bus (JBUS) and other related LVC M&S toolsets.
