Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Suffolk, Virginia

Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting elementary students for the  academic year. Located onsite near Suffolk, VA, this full-time position allows you to collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team in an engaging school setting. Youll provide vital communication access, making a true difference in the educational experience of students who are Deaf or hard of hearing.

Qualifications:

• EIPA score of 3.5 or above required; candidates with a 3.4 will be considered under certain conditions.
• Level 3 interpreter certification in Virginia.
• Previous experience in K-12 or elementary school environments preferred.
• Strong fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
• Ability to effectively interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and peer interactions.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to work within a team approach.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide sign language interpretation for classroom instruction, school activities, and student interactions.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and other interpreters to ensure student support.
• Contribute input as part of an educational team to meet students communication needs.
• Accurately convey spoken language into ASL and interpret student responses into spoken English.
• Support individualized education plans (IEPs) as required.
• Maintain professional documentation and adhere to school policies and protocols.
