Project Mechanic Project Mechanic/Fabricator
Position Summary
Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineer, the person in this role will work alongside the engineering team to coordinate projects, help design blueprints, develop mechanical systems, and ensure tasks are completed successfully and on time. This role is based at our corporate headquarters and main roasting facility in Suffolk, Virginia.
Job Duties- Design, fabricate, and/or modify conveyor and coffee flow transitions
- Troubleshoot and perform adjustments and repairs as necessary during startup of equipment and systems
- Review and provide input to engineering drawings
- Work directly with outside contractors and machinery vendors representatives/technicians in supporting equipment overhauls/installations
- Partner with Project Electrician, Maintenance Mechanics, Mechanical Contractors, and Engineers to complete project tasks
- Quote jobs for materials and estimate time required for successful completion
- Use plant vehicles to safely move and access equipment for interim staging and installation (fork trucks, manlifts)
- Maintain a “clean as you go” policy
- Ability to work on manlifts and elevated platforms
- Support ongoing plant production goals by performing the following:
- Working with Maintenance to perform critical repairs on high priority lines
- Execute continuous improvement assessments to determine how we can increase efficiencies, safety, and/or decrease waste
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
- Formal apprenticeship or five years of fabrication experience required
- Demonstrated diagnostic trouble shooting skills in previous positions
- Must have the ability to identify proper materials required for repairs, such as how to measure belts, chains, and fasteners; fill out order forms as required
- Precision measuring ability and technical reading/writing skills
- Demonstrated fabrication and assembly skills
- Must have welding and fabrication experience
- Organizational and time management skills required
- Good interpersonal skills are necessary for both internal and external communication
- Ability to learn plant computer systems:
Email, internet usage, training videos, etc. - High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must comply with all Federal, State, Corporate, Warehouse and Food Safety standards, policies, and guidelines (i.e., HACCP, GMP, SQF, FDA, etc.)
- Maintain safe work habits and a safe work environment
- Must be willing and able to frequently lift 50 lbs.
- Must be willing and able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment
