Position Summary:
Assures quality excellence in our Roasting/Processing Department.
Tests, evaluates, analyzes, and reports data for roasted and ground coffee to ensure specifications are met and all facility HACCP and FDA compliance requirements are followed.
Essence of role:
Quality Control Technicians have a key role, in partnership with Roasting/Processing Operators, to ensure accuracies and prevent rework, while meeting all customer standards and upholding strict food safety standards.
Job Duties:
- Conduct physical, chemical, and sensory evaluations of coffee to guarantee they meet roasting specifications.
- Adhere to and promote compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) requirements.
- Record and report quality conditions, maintain rigorous documentation, and participate in process improvement initiatives.
- Provide training and education on quality-based programs to operations teams, including Processing Shift Supervisors.
- Help ensure blending, roasting, grinding, and flavoring processes are safe, consistent, and strictly adhere to manufacturing specifications, as well as Quality specifications.
- Test and evaluate batches and samples for appearance, color, aroma, grind, and moisture; record data for further analysis.
- Verify critical control points and ensure all SOPs are being followed.
- Log and maintain precise records for lot traceability, allergen control, quality audits, etc.
- Ensure proper documentation (i.e., lot numbers, origins, and other specifications) is recorded accurately and legibly.
- Monitor areas for cleanliness, safety, and functionality (includes scales, testing equipment, metal detectors, and magnets).
- Work with leaders to halt or reject non-conforming product; help to determine root cause.
- Partner with Sanitation to ensure all procedures are being followed.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High School diploma;
Associate's degree strongly preferred. - 1–3 years in food manufacturing environment is required, ideally with exposure to dry ingredient blending.
- Must have strong sensory abilities (taste/smell).
- A strict attention to detail, with strong verbal and written skills, is required.
- Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety standards like SQF or GFSI is highly desired.
- You must be comfortable making recommendations and working with people at all levels of the organization.
- Collaboration and being a team player is required.
- Strong Microsoft Office capabilities, specifically Excel; must be comfortable entering and sorting data.
Physical Demands:
- Must be willing and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be willing and able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
- Must be able to meet physical, environmental, and mental requirements outlined either with or without accommodation.
- Frequent lifting, bending, walking and standing for long periods of time.
Food Safety Requirements and Responsibilities:
Must comply with all Federal, State, Corporate, Warehouse and Food Safety standards, policies, and guidelines (i.e., HACCP, GMP, SQF, FDA, etc.).
