Position SummaryPosition: Nurse Aide - Med Surg 4N - Part Time, Days. In this role, the successful candidate, under the supervision of the registered nurse, performs routine service duties and basic nursing procedures necessary to provide for the care, comfort and safety of patients. Maintains patient and service rooms in a clean and orderly condition. Assists with the preparation of the room and equipment for diagnostic procedures.
Participates in the orientation process of new employees.
- Deliver basic nursing care to meet the care and comfort needs of the patient. Respond to patient call lights promptly and relay information to appropriate nursing personnel.
- Observe the patient and report any reaction or change in condition to the nurse in a timely manner.
- Assist the patient in activities of daily living including nourishment, ambulation, personal hygiene, and toileting.
- Adapt care delivery to meet the individual needs of the patient.
- Provide direct nursing care to patients by performing tasks such as vital signs/weight, baths, skin care, Foley catheter care, enemas and specimen collection in compliance with policy/procedure.
- Demonstrate proper turning, positioning and transferring techniques; distribute patient nourishment and assist with feeding as indicated.
- Record food/fluid intake on appropriate records (e.g., flow sheet, Intake & Output, or Calorie Count Sheet).
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment; monitor and maintain service rooms in an orderly manner and prepare equipment for return to Central Service.
- Identify patients prior to care delivery and recognize safety hazards; complete patient rounds to monitor patient safety.
- Use proper body mechanics and safety measures during transfers or lifting of patients or equipment.
- Comply with Falls Prevention Program; respond to workload fluctuations and assist other unit staff as needed.
- Complete various errands as requested; interact effectively with staff and departments; work collaboratively to improve the environment of care for patients, family and personnel.
- Seek guidance from the Nurse Manager and Nursing Administrative Supervisor to address issues; participate in evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices and support measures to improve practice.
- Attend and participate in educational programs to maintain competence; comply with staff meeting attendance requirements.
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or GED; BLS certification (AHA) and first aid training. De-escalation training provided on the job. Ability to read and write at an elementary school level to understand the patient7s plan of care and to record data on the patient7s medical record. Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations at an elementary school level to take and record the patient7s weight, vital signs, and intake & output.
