Sentara Obici Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Surgical Short Stay (SSU) Observation Unit. This is a Flexi/PRN/As needed position.

About the UnitThe Observation/Short Stay Unit is an 18‑bed department that specializes in observation, post‑procedural monitoring, and short‑term treatments, including TIA workups, stress tests, and radiology procedures. The maximum stay is typically two days per patient. Registered nurses can expect between 6 and 8 patient discharges per shift, with a nurse‑to‑patient ratio of approximately 1:5 to 1:6. The unit is supported by a highly skilled team of unit coordinators, educators, a nurse manager, and additional PCT staff for ambulation and patient care.
This well‑supported team is ideal for both new graduates and experienced RNs seeking to expand their skills. Sentara Obici Hospital is a certified stroke center and holds a magnet designation for excellence in patient care.
The RN is responsible for delivering a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation). The standards of practice and professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing.

- Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing (required).
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) (preferred).
- Student in the process of obtaining Registered Nursing licensure.
- Registered Nursing license (required).
- BLS required within 90 days of hire.
- No experience required.
- 1 year of acute care (preferred).
- Previous healthcare experience (preferred).
