The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk has multiple outpatient sites, including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.
Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner - ICU - Full Time Nights - Medical Staff Services - Part-T. In this role, the successful candidate will be part of the PA service dedicated to providing quality, professional, cost‑effective health care to all patients at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk. Physician assistants practice medicine under the supervision of a licensed physician, fulfilling a broad range of medical services that would otherwise be provided by the physician.
The PA may be permitted to provide any service within their scope of training and skills delegated by the supervising physician and approved by the Credentials Committee, within the scope of practice of the physician. PAs provide care for in‑ and outpatients primarily in‑house, including the Emergency Department, Pre‑Admission Testing, the operating room, Employee Health, Psych Care, and pediatrics.
- Introduce and identify self as a physician assistant
- Perform initial assessment/history and physical examination
- Order and interpret tests/results (lab, radiology, EKG, etc.) based on patient need
- Document care in the chart in accordance with Hospital policy & procedure
- Formulate diagnoses
- Formulate and implement treatment plan
- Consult with physician when required based on patient’s condition
- Reassess patients
- Order, apply, remove, and reaply restraints
- Provide emergency medical care including Code 64 management
- Triage patients – ED only
- Perform trauma assessment/reassessment (Trauma Team only)
- Legibly document in patient chart, departmental forms, and any other Hospital forms all pertinent patient information following departmental and Hospital policies
- Document any patient or family education on the Hospital patient and family education form
- Ensure all orders and entries are dated and timed
- Maintain documentation level matching severity of situation
- Document results of tests ordered
- Complete procedure notes
- Document follow‑up/consultation with physician
- Sign, date, and time verbal/telephone orders by end of shift
- Complete billing forms fully and submit – house only
- Write and give discharge instructions – ED only
- Explain procedure to patient/family
- Use sterile technique
- Perform procedures following accepted standards of care (IVs, Foley cath, NGT, CVL removal, etc.)
- Suture techniques and suture selection
- Splinting – ED only
- Assist in surgery – technique, OR credentialed only
- Perform CT scan/MRI injections

- Demonstrate medical, technical, and personal skills to assess, reassess, & manage patients
