The Med‑Surg/Oncology Specialty Unit is a 12‑bed unit that primarily serves medical‑surgical patients while also caring for those receiving oncology treatments. This unit offers a well‑rounded clinical experience, combining the fast‑paced variety of med‑surg nursing with the rewarding, relationship‑based care of oncology. Nurses on this unit enjoy low patient ratios that allow for focused, quality care, and a fair every third weekend rotation that provides a healthy balance between work and personal time.
Job ResponsibilitiesThe Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible for performing competent nursing care through the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care—including teaching and health promotion—and evaluation. The RN must also adhere to professional performance standards covering ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality, resource utilization, and environmental health.
Education- Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
- Students in progress of obtaining degree or diploma in nursing.
- Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) or MSN (Preferred)
- Registered nursing License (Required)
- BLS required within 90 days of hire
- None required
- 1 year of acute care (preferred)
- Previous healthcare experience (preferred)
The hospital offers a unique 6‑month program, automatically enrolling any RN with less than 12 months experience or transitioning to a new practice area. The program includes general nursing orientation, specialty clinical track residency, professional development sessions, mentoring, and unit‑based preceptors.
