Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for the 2 South – Acute Cardiac/Stroke Unit. This is a Full Time night shift position in Suffolk, VA. Sign on bonus up to $20,000 available for qualified candidates.
Hours
: 7 PM to 7 AM with rotating weekend schedule.
The Acute Cardiac/Stroke Unit at Sentara Obici Hospital provides care for patients with cardiac conditions including heart failure, rhythm disturbances, newly implanted pacemakers and defibrillators, post‑coronary interventions, post‑ablation, myocardial infarctions, pre/post catheterization, acute stroke, and post‑procedural neuro cases. This 25‑bed unit operates at a 1:6 nurse‑to‑patient ratio with assistance from Patient Care Techs. The unit offers a high‑acuity environment and is preparing to transition to a Cardiac PCU step‑down before year’s end.

The Registered Nurse is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. Duties include assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. The RN must follow standards of practice and professional performance covering ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
Clinical knowledge and skills must meet the requirements of the acute cardiac and neuro care environment.
- Degree or Diploma from an accredited Registered Nursing Program
- BSN or MSN preferred
- Students currently completing an accredited nursing program
- Registered Nursing License (or student in the process of obtaining)
- BLS within 90 days of hire
- Critical Care / IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire
- NIH within 1 year of hire
- Acute care nursing experience preferred
- Background in stroke or telemetry preferred
- None required for new graduates
