Western Tidewater Community Services Board is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and decisive Child & Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our 24/7 Psychiatric Crisis Receiving Center and Adult Crisis Stabilization. This position is M-F (3pm-11pm) and provides rapid psychiatric assessment, stabilization, prescribing of medication, and disposition support for individuals experiencing acute mental health and substance use crises. The Child & Adult PMHNP will work closely with an interdisciplinary crisis team to help individuals receive timely care in the least restrictive and most appropriate setting.

• Conduct live face to face comprehensive psychiatric evaluations to assess mental health and substance use disorders in children and adolescents
• Diagnose psychiatric conditions using DSM-5 criteria and develop individualized treatment plans
• Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications in accordance with state and federal regulations
• Short term monitoring of patient progress, and establish treatment plans as needed, and ensure medication safety
• Provide psychoeducation to patients and families about mental health conditions and treatment options
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including therapists, case managers, and primary care providers to ensure holistic care
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in compliance with regulatory standards
• Stay current with evidence-based practices, continuing education, and professional standards of care

• Master’s Degree with current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license specializing in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMHNP), valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia
• Valid DEA Controlled Substance Registration
• Ability to practice autonomously in the State of Virginia (preferred). Minimum of one (1) year of experience collaborating with individuals living with mental illness and substance use disorders
• Ability to make sound, independent clinical decisions regarding patient care
• Strong oral and written communication skills and collaborative approach with other providers
• Commitment to professional ethics, patient-centered care, and continuous learning
• Proficiency in electronic health records and related clinical software
• Experience in diagnosing and treating common psychiatric conditions
• Working knowledge of managed care systems and the Medicare population
• Demonstrated professionalism in appearance, ethics, and conduct
