Security Officer – Tappahannock – Evenings

NOTE - This shift is Evenings, 4pm to 12:30am, Tuesday - Saturday. There also can be a shift of 2pm to 10:30pm, Thursday - Monday. The Security Officer provides security services to VCUHS by courteously assisting staff, visitors, and patients; enforcing hospital rules and regulations; projecting a positive image; and promoting a safe healthcare environment. The Security Officer conveys an image of professionalism, behaving in a way conducive to good hospital and community relations.

This is an unarmed, non-sworn security position.

• De-escalates agitated patients individually and as part of a team.
• Prevents potentially risky or violent situations.
• Assists staff, visitors, and patients with courtesy.
• Enforces hospital rules and regulations.
• Promotes a safe healthcare environment.
• Acts professionally to foster good hospital and community relations.

• Previous knowledge of security and/or law enforcement measures and techniques acquired during 6 to 12 months of on-the-job training or orientation, or college curriculum in Administration of Justice.
• Preferred:
  One year of security, public safety, or law enforcement work experience.

• Required:
  
  High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred:
  Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.

• Physical:
  Lifting 20-50 lbs.; prolonged standing, sitting, bending, walking, climbing steps or ladders.
• Mental/Sensory:
  Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, good hearing, clear speaking, legible writing, reading, logical thinking.
• Emotional:
  Able to handle fast pace, noisy environment and adapt to frequent change.

• Work all shifts, including weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed.
• May require valid Virginia Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
