Diesel Technician (Class A / Class
B)
Direct Hire | Suffolk, VA
Pay: $30-35/hr. with potential for more depending on experience.
OverviewThe Diesel Technician repairs, maintains, and overhauls company fleet diesel equipment to ensure safe operation and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on tractors, trailers, refrigeration units, and converter dollies.
- Diagnose equipment issues and perform necessary repairs.
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other critical components to ensure proper operating condition.
- Ensure equipment has the required licensing and registration prior to being deemed roadworthy.
- Complete work orders and maintenance documentation through the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system.
- Install, replace, and repair onboard computers.
- Perform routine maintenance, including oil changes, battery inspections, and equipment lubrication.
- Operate hand and power tools, including welding equipment, jacks, and hoists.
- Train and provide guidance to other technicians and employees as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- 2+ years of medium- to heavy-duty vehicle repair experience, including preventive maintenance, tire and wheel service, air and air disc brakes, diagnostics, computerized diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, electronic component repair, and A/C refrigeration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or vocational/trade school diploma.
- 3+ years of medium- to heavy-duty vehicle repair experience.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- 5+ years of medium- to heavy-duty vehicle repair experience, including preventive maintenance, tire and wheel service, air and air disc brakes, diagnostics, computerized diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, electronic component repair, and a minimum of 2 years of A/C refrigeration experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or 2-year technical degree.
- 7–10 years of medium- to heavy-duty vehicle repair experience.
