Job Overview

Utility Trades Technician shall self‑perform technical and non‑technical routine maintenance and preventative maintenance on the physical plant, and provide the campus with electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs as required. This position is essential and may require reporting to work during campus closures due to weather or other emergent conditions.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned and may assist the agency or state government in emergencies declared by the Governor.

Responsibilities
  • Perform basic electrical repairs in accordance with applicable code, including knowledge of National Electric Code.
  • Repair drywall, acoustic tile, and perform surface preparation and painting.
  • Perform basic plumbing and HVAC repairs.
  • Execute basic construction tasks.
  • Interpret sketches, diagrams, and plans.
  • Use basic hand tools (hammer, saw, screwdriver, wrenches) and electric drills.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, bend and stoop as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and skill in performing basic electric repairs in accordance with applicable code.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code applications.
  • Knowledge of and skill in drywall and acoustic tile repair procedures, surface preparation, and painting.
  • Knowledge of and skill in performing basic plumbing and HVAC repairs.
  • Knowledge of and skill in performing basic construction.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret sketches, diagrams and plans.
  • Skilled in the use of basic hand tools (hammer, saw, screwdriver, wrenches) and electric drills.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, bend and stoop.
  • Journeyman’s license in any building maintenance trade (additional consideration).
Additional Considerations
  • Journeyman’s license in any building maintenance trade.
Employment Conditions

Employee is required to operate a state vehicle. No supervisory responsibilities. No required travel. Position is full time, Monday‑Friday 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Telework options are not available. Salary range $34,000 – $55,000, commensurate with experience.
