Under limited supervision, performs supervisory and administrative work overseeing the activities of multiple social work service programs administered through the City Social Services Department. Primary designation is in the Adult Services/Adult Protective Services Unit.
Responsibilities include directing, coordinating, and supervising the activities of the divisions’ family services workers and clerical support staff, assigning cases and special projects, and ensuring adherence to program regulations and policies. Employee is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of multiple social work service programs offered by the City Social Services Department, and recommending changes, as necessary; and for preparing various reports and statistical reports.
Performs other duties as assigned. Reports to the Assistant Director of Services.
- Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field or a Bachelor’s degree in any field with a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area.
- Considerable experience in assigned program area/human services programs and completion of required training programs.
- Equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Prefer Master’s degree in social work, sociology, public administration, psychology, or a related field and extensive professional social work experience.
- Prefer working knowledge of VA DSS, Adult Services, Adult Protective Services, Family Services Intake, and Crisis Intervention practices.
- Prefer working knowledge of VA DSS case documentation systems such as OASIS, ASAPS, etc., and experience monitoring cases.
- Prefer experience with Family Engagement and Family Assessment Planning Team.
- Prefer supervisory experience or experience which reflects increased responsibilities due to varied and progressive assignments in a VA DSS.

- Employee must be willing to work disaster related assignments, including emergency shelter duty, in the event of a natural disaster or emergency.
