Sugar Grove Public Library District seeks a creative and reliable Youth Services Assistant to join our highly collaborative team. This position reports to the Youth Services Manager. Includes both morning and evening shifts, with a weekend rotation. The Youth Services Assistant in this role delivers both early childhood programming (including storytime) and school-age programming.
Essential Functions- Provides excellent front-line reference and reader’s advisory services.
- Plans and presents programming for children ages 0-11 and their caregivers.
- Participates in selection/collection development for children’s collections.
- Creates displays and booklists to promote library materials.
- Participates in regular professional development/continuing education.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrated ability to create fun and compelling programs for children 0-11.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of popular children's literature and child development.
- Demonstrated proficiency with technology and willingness to learn new skills as needed.
- A collaborative attitude and commitment to great customer service.
- Bachelor’s Degree, LTA, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One or more years of customer service experience (public library experience preferred).
- Experience working with children ages 0-11 and their caregivers.
- Spanish language skills a significant plus.
The Sugar Grove Public Library District serves 16,114 residents including the Village of Sugar Grove, Sugar Grove Township, and some residents in Montgomery, Aurora, North Aurora, and Elburn. We are located 50 miles west of Chicago, minutes from I-88. Our facility is 26,000 square feet and was built in 2009. The Library is a member of the SWAN consortium and shares resources with 100 other member libraries.
The Library is open 63 hours a week:
Monday – Thursday: 9am- 8pm, Friday: 9am-6pm, Saturday 10am – 4pm, Sunday 2pm-6pm. Library district voters approved increased operational funding for the budget year beginning July 2024, and we are looking for staff to grow with us.
