Waubonsee Community College is accepting applications for part-time Peer Tutors.
Reporting to the Learning Resource Center Manager, Peer Tutors provide subject matter assistance, assist fellow students with the mastery of concepts or applications, and facilitate small group study sessions for select classes. They integrate effective study and learning strategies to maximize students’ potential to become independent learners and achieve academic success.
Responsibilities
Provide one-on-one assistance in subjects that the tutor has maintained a B or better.
Facilitate small group study sessions each semester as needed.
Visit classrooms as needed to introduce students to tutoring services.
Create a welcoming environment and assist staff, tutors, and students with Tutoring Center-related needs.
Complete and submit all required forms (e.g., time sheets, evaluations, questionnaires distributed at workshops).
Develop and nurture rapport with peers and faculty.
Maintain a clean, organized workspace.
Completion of required New Employee and/or Tutor Training.
Prompt attendance at meetings, workshops and training programs.
Be punctual, begin all sessions promptly, use time for academic tasks, and focus on the student’s needs.
Be courteous and helpful in all interactions including phone and online conversations.
Maintain confidentiality with any shared information.
Adhere to all tutoring policies.
Assist the Learning Resource Center Manager with various projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a current Waubonsee Community College Student.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people.
Appreciation for, and sensitivity to, cultural differences.
Demonstrate excellent communication skills with a variety of people.
Demonstrate strong clerical and organizational skills.
Must be a good student in academic standing.
Must maintain a minimum of 3.0 GPA or 3.5 GPA for Nursing, throughout the term of your employment.
Basic Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suites. Basic knowledge of Canvas and Zoom.
