Job Description

Join our dynamic team at Waubonsee Community College. The part-time Information Technology Computer Lab Assistant reports to the Computer Services Coordinator at the Sugar Grove Campus. Basic functions for this position include assisting computing customers, maintaining the computing lab environment, answering the Technical Assistance Center (TAC) phone, and assisting Computer Services technicians or specialists when necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all equipment in the computing lab is operating properly.
  • Prepare labs and classrooms for the start of each semester.
  • Assist customers in the operation of computer hardware and printing.
  • Assist customers with logins and passwords.
  • Assist students with accessing various application software.
  • Answer the Technical Assistance Center phone.
  • Communicate with TAC on an ongoing basis to ensure customer service issues are handled appropriately.
  • Ensure that the computing labs are neat and organized.
  • Assist in training other Information Technology (IT) staff.
  • Provide backup and assistance to other areas of IT including Computer Services technicians and specialists, when needed.
  • Perform other duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience required in either technical support or a customer service position supporting a computer environment.
  • Basic hardware and software knowledge.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with users of various technical skill levels via e‑mail, in person, and on the telephone.
