Accounting Manager
We are partnering with a growing, operations-focused organization seeking an Accounting Manager to lead a small accounting team while remaining actively involved in day‑to‑day accounting activities.
This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who brings a strong general accounting foundation, enjoys working alongside the team, and can balance people management with close support, reconciliations, transaction review, issue resolution, reporting, and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Directly manage and support a small accounting team, including workload allocation, coaching, training, performance feedback, cross‑training, and day‑to‑day coverage.
- Remain actively involved in general accounting activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, transaction review, financial record maintenance, and issue resolution.
- Support month‑end and year‑end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Review financial transactions and account activity for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies and internal controls.
- Prepare and review financial reports related to cash flow, aging, account reconciliations, and operational performance.
- Work alongside the team to investigate discrepancies, resolve accounting issues, and maintain continuity during high‑volume periods or staffing gaps.
- Partner cross‑functionally with operations and leadership teams to support business initiatives, financial analysis, and process improvement.
- Support internal and external audit activities and ensure adherence to accounting standards and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency, strengthen accounting processes, enhance reporting, and reduce manual work.
- Provide guidance and support across accounting functions, including Accounts Payable and other transaction‑based processes as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting strongly preferred;
Finance or a closely related field considered, with strong general accounting experience. - 3+ years of progressive accounting experience required.
- Previous direct people management, supervisory, or formal team leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Strong general accounting knowledge, including reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, month‑end close, and internal controls.
- Experience working in or alongside Accounts Payable or other high‑volume transaction‑based accounting functions preferred.
- Experience utilizing ERP systems and advanced Excel skills in a high‑volume environment.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, analytical ability, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
The strongest candidates will bring a broad general accounting background and be comfortable serving as a true working manager. This individual should be able to lead and develop a team while also stepping into the details, investigating issues, supporting close activities, reviewing account activity, and working directly within accounting processes when needed.
