Skills Required Primary (Must-Have)
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Preferred)

Position Overview

The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the accounting operations of the credit union while ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective internal controls. This position oversees daily accounting functions, supervises accounting staff, supports audits and regulatory examinations, and drives process improvements to strengthen operational efficiency and financial performance.

  • Lead and supervise the daily operations of the accounting department
  • Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff through coaching, training, and performance evaluations
  • Oversee general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, accruals, and month‑end close activities
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Ensure accurate preparation and submission of NCUA Call Reports and other regulatory filings
  • Develop, implement, and monitor internal accounting controls and procedures
  • Support internal audits, external audits, and regulatory examinations
  • Prepare financial reports and analysis for senior leadership
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting systems, automation, and business processes
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, financial regulations, and credit union standards
  • Collaborate with leadership to support strategic financial initiatives
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of financial information
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month‑end close
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and accounting procedures
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience using accounting or core processing systems
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous credit union or banking industry experience
  • Experience preparing NCUA Call Reports
  • Familiarity with Texas Credit Union Department regulations
  • Experience with regulatory examinations and financial audits
  • Process improvement and accounting automation experience
  • Strong leadership and team development experience
  • Onsite position located in Sugar Land, TX
  • Standard 1st Shift schedule (40 hours per week)
  • Collaborative team environment supporting credit union financial operations
