Part‑Time Library Clerk – Sugar Land

Responsibilities

  • Respond to patron inquiries by phone and in person.
  • Shelve library materials and maintain shelf order.
  • Charge and discharge library materials using an automated system.
  • Receive, sort, and process delivery items.
  • Prepare items for the Hold Shelf.
  • Reroute circulation materials to other branches.
  • Register patrons and issue library cards.
  • Collect fines and fees.
  • Attend staff meetings, Staff Development Day, committee meetings, and training sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional duties may include:

  • Orders supplies.
  • Processes periodicals.
  • Processes, mends, and cleans books and/or AV items.
  • Orders and receives library materials/checks invoices.
  • Creates records, changes holdings using an automated system.
  • Processes mail for the library system.
  • Performs database maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions.
  • Capacity to work 24 hours per week in the assigned location.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Keyboarding and typing skills.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to communicate with staff and the public.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, stand, talk, listen, and handle materials up to 25 lb. on a daily basis.
  • Occasional sitting as required.
  • Visual acuity for close, distant, color, peripheral, depth, and focus adjustments.
Working Conditions
  • Position requires evening and weekend hours.
  • Work environment generally free of disagreeable elements with rare exposure to accidents or health hazards.
Salary

Part‑time: $15.30 per hour, 24 hours per week.
