The Director of College Counselingis a dynamic leader who combines professional expertise and excellent relational skills with strategic vision and innovation. He/she has previous experience in college admissions or counseling and demonstrates a true commitment to helping students seek the best collegiate fit for higher education. He/She guides students and families through the college search and application process and coordinates educational programs to help students and their families successfully navigate college admissions.

The Director of College Counseling will possess the ability to counsel, support, and develop a diverse population of students and their families in a Christian, college-preparatory environment.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of junior and senior families each year, and provide academic advising
  • Supervise, support, coach and collaborate with the College Counselor and Testing Coordinator
  • Provide direction and support for all College Counseling events, including but not limited to parent presentations, application workshops, and College Fairs; attendance at some evening programming would be required
  • Attend counselor fly-ins, as well as state and national college counseling conferences throughout the year
  • Collaborate with the College Counselor in compiling a college advising database
  • Attend and contribute to some Upper School programming, including but not limited to Senior Retreat, admissions events and Eagle Week
Scope of Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with and report to the Head of Upper School.
  • Actively participate in the development and implementation of a comprehensive high school college counseling and advising program.
  • Develop and implement a plan for college counseling that educates students and parents on college admissions beginning in eighth grade.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with students and families.
  • Guide and counsel students and parents to define and develop realistic educational, college, and career plans.
  • Monitor student progress toward educational, college, and career goals.
  • Meet individually with families to discuss college admissions, timelines and financial aid.
  • Oversee the dissemination of all information regarding the college counseling application process.
  • Plan, organize, and host educational meetings and programs for students and parents regarding academic, personal, social, and college-related topics.
  • Schedule visits and host college representatives on FBCA’s campus.
  • Provide scholarship & financial aid information to school families.
  • Prepare and organize supplemental documents for college admission or financial aid purposes in support of student applications, including letters of recommendation, counselor evaluation forms, secondary school reports and teacher letters of recommendation.
  • Work with the FBCA Registrar to keep accurate permanent records of students’ testing and academic work.
  • Maintain FBCA School Profile.
  • Proactively contact and be available to students and families on a daily basis.
  • Consult and collaborate with faculty, staff, and parents in understanding and meeting the needs of students.
  • Coordinate and supervise the college testing program (SAT, ACT, PSAT and AP), including helping students and families register for test dates, providing practice opportunities and resources.
  • Work with the Academic Counselor and Upper School Head on collecting, analyzing, and reporting all college testing data.
  • Participate in activities that contribute to the mission and operation of the school.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Head of Upper School.
  • Send initial, mid-year, and final transcripts of current students to colleges and universities.
  • Maintain college admission and scholarship data.
  • Coordinate annual FBCA College fair(s).
  • Maintains and actively develops relationships with college admission officers and other school counselors; is active in TACAC or NACAC; visits colleges and universities to deepen and expand knowledge of school options; remains informed regarding matters that have an impact on college counseling.
  • Completes Academic Advising for 11th and 12th grade students and manages schedule changes and course requests for rising junior and senior students
  • Maintain NCAA and Naviance databases and serve as athletic recruitment liaison
  • Tracks and maintains course credits and graduation requirements for each student
