Field Supervisor

The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time Field Supervisor in the Utilities Department.

We offer a starting salary of $74,422 – $85,592 depending on your qualifications and experience.

• Responsible for and supervise the daily inspection, operation, repair and preventive maintenance of the city’s wastewater lift stations and associated facilities.
• Supervise and lead the division staff including training and instructing assignments to the pump and motor technicians. Coach and train staff to build and maintain group technical skills. Teach operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting skills through hands‑on training and field instruction.
• Review draft engineering designs of new construction and rehabilitation projects for wastewater projects to ensure that the project meets the long‑term goals of the Department. Serve as owner’s representative on engineering projects for new construction and rehabilitations for wastewater projects to ensure division’s operational needs are met.
• Manage purchasing for wastewater lift stations and associated facilities. Assist with budget projections and budget management throughout the fiscal year.
• Assist in developing and updating the division’s annual training program for staff.
• Responsible for the maintenance of division inventory. Provide and maintain stock of necessary safety equipment and personal protective equipment for the lift stations. Promote and encourage its use by staff.
• Understand the water treatment process, proper chemical addition and reactions, and process targets in order to maintain proper operation of facilities.
• Required to work as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster, whether natural or acts of war.
• Stay abreast of, and comply with, all City and departmental policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Director or his/her designee.

• Requires a High School Diploma or a GED Certificate.

• Five years of progressively responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of water and/or wastewater systems; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Two years previous pump and motor experience is preferred over general utility experience.
• Supervisory experience preferred.

• Valid Texas Driver License with a safe driving record.
• Valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) or higher.
• Class II Wastewater Collection certification by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) required.
