The Centrifugal Compressor Expert will provide technical leadership for the specification, design, selection, and performance evaluation of centrifugal compressors used in process and energy applications. This on-site role, based in Sugar Land, TX, involves reviewing and interpreting process requirements, analyzing compressor performance curves, and supporting equipment integration with fired heaters, boilers, and waste heat recovery units. The expert will collaborate with engineering teams and clients to troubleshoot operational issues, diagnose performance deviations, and recommend corrective actions or optimization measures.
Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing technical reports, contributing to project proposals, supporting revamp and debottlenecking studies, and providing guidance during installation, commissioning, and turnaround activities. The role also includes mentoring less experienced engineers and contributing to internal standards, best practices, and training materials related to compressor operation and reliability.
- Strong expertise in centrifugal compressor design, selection, performance analysis, and troubleshooting, including experience with OEM data and industry standards.
- Experience working with fired heaters, boilers, and waste heat recovery units, and understanding of how compressors interface with process and utility systems.
- Proficiency in engineering analysis tools and software commonly used for compressor and process modeling (e.g., process simulation, performance calculation tools).
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, datasheets, and mechanical drawings, and to prepare clear technical documentation and reports.
- Solid understanding of relevant codes and standards (e.g., API, ASME) and best practices for rotating equipment reliability, safety, and maintenance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or a related Engineering field; advanced degree or specialized training in rotating equipment is an advantage.
- Several years of hands-on industrial experience with centrifugal compressors in refineries, petrochemical plants, or power/energy facilities.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and clients in an on-site environment.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems, manage priorities across multiple projects, and deliver within schedule
