Tax Director

Tax Director Position Summary A private investment/family office is seeking an experienced Tax Director to oversee tax strategy, planning, compliance, and transaction support across a complex ownership structure. This role will work closely with principals, investment professionals, outside tax advisors, and legal counsel. The Tax Director will be responsible for evaluating tax implications of investments and transactions, identifying planning opportunities, coordinating compliance, and helping ensure tax matters are addressed proactively throughout the year.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical tax experience with partnerships, pass-through entities, private investments, and complex individual and trust structures, along with the ability to communicate tax issues clearly to non-tax professionals.

• Provide tax guidance related to acquisitions, dispositions, refinancings, recapitalizations, and other investment activity.
• Evaluate transaction structures and identify potential tax risks and planning opportunities before transactions are completed.
• Partner with investment professionals and outside advisors on tax-efficient structuring.
• Lead ongoing tax planning across operating entities, investment vehicles, partnerships, trusts, and related ownership structures.
• Identify tax planning opportunities related to entity structure, distributions, investments, and ownership.
• Coordinate with outside CPA firms, tax preparers, attorneys, and estate planning advisors.
• Oversee tax compliance and filing requirements for entities, individuals, trusts, and other related structures.
• Review partnership K-1s and monitor tax reporting related to private investments.
• Track distributions and related tax treatment across investment and ownership entities.
• Calculate and monitor quarterly estimated tax payments.
• Evaluate the tax impact of restructurings, financings, and other complex transactions.
• Serve as a primary internal resource for tax-related questions from principals and investment professionals.
• Translate complex tax issues into clear, practical recommendations.
• Maintain documentation of key tax processes, structures, and recurring issues.
• Improve tax processes, reporting, forecasting, and workflow efficiency, including the use of technology and automation where appropriate.

• 10+ years of progressive tax experience.
• Experience in public accounting, a family office, private investment firm, private equity environment, or another organization with complex private-client tax matters.
• Strong knowledge of partnership taxation, pass-through entities, and complex ownership structures.
• Experience with transaction-related tax planning and structuring.
• Real estate tax experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience working with high-net-worth individuals, trusts, family partnerships, or private investment entities is a plus.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical tax matters to executives and investment professionals.
• Experience managing relationships with outside tax advisors and legal counsel.
• CPA required.
• JD or LL.M. is a plus.
