Consumer Loan Underwriter

Nizari PFCU seeks a knowledgeable, member-focused Underwriter to evaluate consumer loan applications and make sound lending decisions that balance member service, risk management, and organizational goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of lending principles, credit analysis, regulatory requirements, and underwriting practices, and will demonstrate the ability to exercise independent judgment and flexible decision-making based on individual member circumstances.

• Review and analyze consumer loan applications, credit reports, income documentation, collateral information, and other supporting documents.
• Make independent lending decisions within established lending authority and guidelines.
• Apply sound judgment to evaluate exceptions and unique lending situations while balancing risk and member needs.
• Assess members' ability and willingness to repay based on financial analysis and creditworthiness.
• Structure loan terms and conditions aligned with organizational policies and members' financial goals.
• Collaborate with branch staff, lending personnel, and management to ensure timely loan processing and approvals.
• Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and professionally to internal stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal regulations, credit union policies, and lending procedures.
• Maintain accurate records and loan documentation.
• Identify potential fraud risks and escalate concerns appropriately.
• Contribute to process improvements that enhance member experience and operational efficiency.

• 2+ years of consumer lending, underwriting, or related financial services experience.
• Strong understanding of standard lending processes, credit analysis, debt-to-income calculations, and risk assessment.
• Ability to make confident, independent lending decisions within delegated authority.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise flexibility and sound judgment when evaluating non-traditional or complex lending scenarios.
• Knowledge of lending regulations and compliance requirements.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with lending and core banking systems.

• Experience in a credit union environment.
• Experience with indirect lending, credit cards, and unsecured lending products.
• Knowledge of consumer lending regulations including Fair Lending, ECOA, and other applicable requirements.
