At Houston Methodist, the Regional Administrator position is responsible for activities of multiple, off-site practice locations within a specific region to include Primary Care and/or Specialty group practices. This position will lead the integration of operational and clinical leadership structures and promote the business growth of the clinic network including all functional activities in coordination with provider practice leaders and under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer and/or Regional CEO.

The Regional Administrator position reinforces compliance with legal requirements, standards, policies and procedures including financial performance. This position ensures quality service delivery, implementing quality improvement processes and timely planning, directing, and implementing the financial, personnel, patient care, operational and delivery of services.

Responsibilities
  • The Director position responsibilities include overseeing the activities of the department staff, ensuring quality, productivity, functional excellence and efficiency to accomplish strategic and operational objectives.
  • Accountable for employee engagement, adequate staffing levels, budget development and compliance, staffing decisions such as hiring and terminating employment, coaching and counseling employees on work related performance, and developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure a safe and effective work environment.
  • Ensures training, monitoring and operations initiatives are implemented to secure compliance with ethical and legal business practices and accreditation/regulatory/government regulations.
  • Directs, develops and implements strategic and operational/high level projects and processes through independent work or through work teams to enable effective and efficient completion of objectives.
  • Oversees management of and ensures development for staff to meet overall objectives in terms of quality, service and cost effectiveness; provides guidance and feedback including performance appraisals.
  • Meets or exceeds threshold goals for department turnover and/or system metrics on employee engagement indicators.
  • Maintains an engaged employee group by conducting regular department meetings, performance appraisals, new hire feedback, coaching, recognition, and policy review.
  • Identifies opportunities to build strategic relationships between areas to achieve business goals and drives teamwork and process improvements.
  • Collaborates with multiple physician practice leaders and executive leadership on recruitment, promotion, credentialing, and practice plan administration.
  • Serves as liaison between Region physicians, staff, HM/SPG executive administration and Department Chair.
Service Essential Functions
  • Oversees department operations, schedules and activities to ensure goals are accomplished within the time frame; sets priorities and directs staff to ensure high-quality service and patient satisfaction.
  • Drives service standards and participates on entity committees as a department representative.
  • Coordinates with operational staff to facilitate staff activities and optimize physician schedules; partners with access team as needed.
  • Performs space and resource planning for the Region, addressing administrative, clinical and resource needs, including space allocation and renovation issues.
Quality/Safety Essential Functions
  • Ensures a safe and effective working environment and maintains credentials and competencies per accrediting/licensing requirements.
  • Optimizes safe outcomes and information systems by improving workflows and applying lean principles; models situational awareness.
  • Ensures policy and procedure compliance and addresses non-compliance as needed.
  • Leads strategic planning for the Region, including operations and new programs; manages market intelligence and develops short- and long-range plans.
  • Uses dashboards and financials to analyze practice metrics and optimize performance (e.g., staffing, panel size, no-show rate).
Finance Essential Functions
  • Develops and manages department budgets and capital plans; plans for future needs and ensures cost-effectiveness.
  • Creates department strategies to meet financial targets and optimize productivity and resource use.
  • Develops the annual Regional budget with revenue projections and expenditure justification; maintains analyses and makes adjustments as needed.
  • Oversees fiscal administration including purchasing, equipment, inventory, reports, and grants management.
  • Manages physician financial operations such as pro formas and revenue cycle collaboration; ensures timely encounter closures and analyzes monthly reports for coaching.
Growth/Innovation Essential Functions
  • Identifies and implements innovative solutions to improve operations and lead projects; may represent HM at community or professional meetings.
