Surgical Technician II

Job Summary and Responsibilities

Assists in patient care and preparation of surgical patients; performs scrub duties and related procedures in accordance with their license; accountable for ensuring maintenance of sterile field and supplies/equipment for selected specialty. Performs in the advanced roles of preceptor, service specialist and understands sterile technique for instruments and surgical situations.

• Assists surgical team in the scrubbing role according to prescribed standards and licensure.
• Maintains sterile field. Reports immediately any breaks in aseptic technique.
• Passes instruments, suture products, medication, and sponge materials to surgeon.
• Assists with retracting of tissue and organs, and suctioning by holding the retracting instrument which has been placed by the surgeon.
• Electrosurgical current may be applied as directed by the surgeon, to an established instrument placed by the surgeon.
• Performs surgical counts with the RN according to policy and procedure.
• Ensures appropriate equipment and supplies are available for each procedure.
• Assists in housekeeping duties as directed for safe patient environment.
• Assists RN with duties as needed while under direct supervision.
• Proficiently function in the scrub role for all services provided.

• High school diploma/GED
• Minimum Of Two (2) Years Of Surgical Experience
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) OR Technologist in Surgery-Certified (TS-C)
• Basic Life Support (AHA BLS-CPR)
