Position: Nurse Practitioner - Same Day Clinic (The Woodlands)

Come lead with us at Houston Methodist Primary Care Group. At Houston Methodist, the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) – Primary Care position is responsible for maintaining and promoting the health of patients requiring primary care while practicing medicine under the supervision of a licensed physician. This position will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventative care to primary‑care patients. The APP is expected to conduct physicals, order tests and therapy, prescribe medications, and refer to specialists when appropriate.

The role operates in an outpatient primary care setting and may perform independently under indirect supervision of a licensed physician or as part of a treatment team. The APP – Primary Care position affects direct patient care according to the Board of Nursing in the State of Texas and Houston Methodist policies and procedures.

Qualifications Education
  • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited school of Nursing and graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioners program
Experience
  • Two years of advanced practice clinical experience
  • Two years of advanced practice clinical experience in primary care, family medicine, or outpatient internal medicine preferred
Licenses and Certifications (Required)
  • RN – Registered Nurse – Texas State Licensure – Texas Board of Nursing (PSV)
  • NP Compact Licensure – Must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days if establishing Texas residency
  • APRN Non‑Acute Care state license
  • Magnet ANCC‑recognized Non‑Acute Care practitioner certification
  • BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) – American Heart Association
  • AP – Prescriptive Authority – Texas Board of Nursing – Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (PSV)
  • DEA – Narcotics License within 6 months
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Demonstrates required skills and competencies through ongoing skills assessments and performance evaluations
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English essential for patient and employee safety
  • Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co‑workers with a customer‑service focus
  • Uses critical thinking and clinical judgment to work autonomously as defined by the Board of Physician Assistants
  • Accepts accountability for healthcare outcomes
  • Utilizes therapeutic communication to establish relationships with patients, families, and the interprofessional team
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills; prioritizes multiple tasks and roles
  • Exercises judgment in interactions with physicians, team, patients, and families
  • Demonstrates proficient time management skills

  • Coordinates appropriate, timely patient care under physician supervisor for a defined patient population, focusing on identified outcomes; prioritizes care based on patient needs, abilities, and preferences
  • Collaborates with interprofessional team members to manage/coordinate patient care
  • Responds promptly to patient questions or issues and drives improvement of patient satisfaction scores through peer‑to‑peer accountability
Quality/Safety Essential Functions
  • Functions as a quality care provider; coordinates, maintains, and promotes patient health; performs diagnosis, prescriptive authority, and treatment within practice guidelines, protocols, or standing orders to ensure safety
  • Conducts health assessments and develops plans of care, initiates interventions, and evaluates outcomes for defined patient populations
  • Assists the team in developing and implementing protocols for patient safety; leads improvements in safety‑related processes
