At Houston Methodist, the Registered Nurse (RN) PRN Endoscopy position is a licensed staff nurse that operates at the Competent to Proficient stage of Benner's model of clinical practice. The role requires a 9‑shift, 6‑week schedule and focuses on providing professional nursing care to a diverse patient population. Duties include nursing assessments, assisting with exams and treatments, patient education, and accurate maintenance of medical records.

The RN delivers direct patient care efficiently, collaborates with physicians and the interprofessional health care team, and advocates for patient and family rights.

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
  • Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below in the Certifications, Licenses and Registrations section
EXPERIENCE
  • Two years registered nurse experience in a healthcare environment
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Required
    • RN – Registered Nurse – Texas State Licensure – Texas Board of  Compact Licensure – Must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days (if establishing Texas residency)
    • BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) – American Heart Association
    • ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (AHA) – American Heart Association
  • Preferred
    • Magnet – ANCC Recognized Certification

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Uses therapeutic communication (active listening and teaching) to establish relationships with patients, families, and the interprofessional team
  • Contributes to teamwork by monitoring unit acuity, offering assistance, and providing and accepting feedback to improve patient outcomes
  • Implements staff education specific to patient populations and unit processes; coaches and mentors other staff and students, possibly including preceptorship
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Follows patient and family‑centered care standards as outlined in the Houston Methodist Professional Nursing Practice document
  • Conducts nursing assessments, assists with exams and treatments, and maintains medical records in culturally sensitive and inclusive manners
  • Develops, updates, and communicates care plans and discharge instructions in partnership with patients, families, and the interprofessional team; advocates for resolution of clinical and ethical concerns
  • Provides patient teaching, evaluates comprehension, and adapts teaching methods accordingly; incorporates post‑discharge planning
  • Contributes to improvement of patient satisfaction metrics via peer accountability
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Adheres to standards of care related to the nursing process and regulatory requirements
  • Identifies areas for practice improvement using evidence‑based research to achieve core measures and patient safety outcomes with accurate documentation
  • Provides and modifies care for complex patients and coordinates care with the interprofessional team using evidence‑based judgment
  • Improves quality and safety scores through near‑miss reporting and collaboration with the interprofessional team
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Manges time effectively, documents care timely, minimizes overtime, and prioritizes daily tasks; provides input on unit resource utilization and capital and operational budget needs
