Lead Solutions Architect
We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME)-level Lead Solutions Architect to architect cloud-based solutions for the U.S. Census Bureau’s Decennial Transformation and Application Modernization (DTAM) effort. This role provides technical and management leadership on major solution architecture assignments, develops and analyzes requirements, collaborates with stakeholders, and produces technical strategies, diagrams, and roadmaps that align with Decennial goals. The Lead Solutions Architect designs secure multi‑cloud solutions leveraging microservices, infrastructure as code, serverless computing, and containerization.
The role may supervise others.
- Review and assess current cloud architecture and engineering plans, and recommend approaches for optimizing, migrating, and modernizing cloud applications.
- Develop, document, and maintain secure multi‑cloud solution architectures using microservices, infrastructure as code, serverless computing, and containerization.
- Establish and maintain cloud naming, tagging, messaging, and development standards in adherence to the Secure Software Development Life Cycle.
- Establish and maintain design patterns to be employed across cloud‑native applications.
- Establish and maintain a cloud control plane to manage cloud application deployment.
- Develop alternative solution architectures and perform trade‑off analysis to determine optimal solutions based on functional and non‑functional requirements.
- Provide best‑fit solution recommendations to the Government based on trade‑off analysis.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute ongoing reviews and gap analyses of cloud‑native processes, policies, and procedures.
- Review cloud security tools and implementations and make recommendations based on Decennial security requirements.
- Establish and maintain automation capabilities and enhancements for Decennial and Decennial‑supporting systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
- 15+ years of experience providing technical and management leadership on major solution architecture assignments (SME level).
- Expert experience architecting secure multi‑cloud solutions using microservices, IaC, serverless, and containerization.
- Demonstrated ability to develop technical strategies, diagrams, roadmaps, and reference architectures.
- Experience establishing cloud standards, design patterns, and a cloud control plane.
- Strong background in solution trade‑off analysis and best‑fit recommendations.
- Experience integrating cloud security tooling aligned with federal security requirements.
- Certified Solutions Architect (AWS / Azure / Google Cloud Professional)
- Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP)
- Dev Ops Certification
- Experience with large‑scale federal cloud migration or modernization programs.
- Familiarity with Dev Sec Ops CI/CD, Zero Trust, and cloud‑native best practices.
- Experience with Fin Ops cost optimization and cloud governance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive briefing to senior Government stakeholders.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
