ASRC Federal Technical Services is seeking a GIS Technician II, to join our team supporting the Census Bureau in Suitland, MD. US Citizenship is required as is CURRENTLY residing in the Maryland/Virginia/DC area. ASRC Federal offers an excellent benefits package that includes tuition reimbursement, certification reimbursement and more. This program offers a hybrid work schedule with a mixture of working remotely and some on-site work.
This position will be focused on tasks related to maintaining accuracy and completeness of the Census MAF (Master Address File)/TIGER (Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing System) Database (MTDB), required changes to boundaries, streets, and addresses are identified and digitized as needed primarily through Census proprietary software.
- Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, or a related field with minimum of 2 years’ experience.
- Experience with ArcGIS (workstation and desktop);
Arc View, AutoCAD Map. - Good organizational and communication skills.
- Some knowledge of civil engineering, cartography surveying and drafting strongly desired.
- Experience with ArcSDE, ArcIMS, Cartography, Imagery, and understanding of Databases is a plus.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- This is a direct position in GIS data enhancement and maintenance using ESRI and custom GIS software.
- Evaluate, edit, and check street centerline, hydrography, and other data layers (graphics and attributes), using custom map production tools.
- Using computer software will include revisions and edits of GIS drawings and files. Edits made according to the instructions provided by the supervisors.
- Additions or deletions of highlighted boundary or shape files
- Reading instruction provided with the shape files
- Reshaping road layers that should not be over lapping with the Hydro layers
- Maintaining live spatial data in a secured environment.
- Editing, modifying, and creating various data layers.
- Will maintain daily production schedule and work with customized data automation tools and procedures
