Turner Industries Group is looking for an experienced Machinist in the Lake Charles, LA area. This position is responsible for setting up and operating a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Non-exempt role;
Reports to the Millwright or Machinist Foreman;
Assigned duties according to specific procedures / work is checked frequently.

Schedule & Incentives
  • Schedule:

    40 hours per week, guaranteed
  • Incentives:

    Truck allowance and Company phone

Essential Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years experience
  • Must be able to pass craft test, background check, and drug screen
  • NCCER certification, preferred
  • Knowledge of all machine tools (hand and powered) and associated hazards
  • Special focus on safety hazards with lathes and cutting tools
Functional Requirements / Responsibilities
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
  • Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to display placement of cuts.
  • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and determine the need for adjustments or repairs.
  • Check work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.
  • Maintain industrial machines and apply knowledge of mechanics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  • Position and fasten work pieces, operate equipment to verify operational efficiency.
  • Install repaired parts into equipment or install new equipment.
  • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
  • Advise clients about the materials being used for finished products.
  • Fit and assemble parts to make or repair machine tools.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
Compensation

Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Physical Involvement

May be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.; reaching in all directions; handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.;

standing / sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction; wearing respirator and other PPE; typing / data entry; step stool use; work in excessive heat; work in excessive cold; work in loud environment.
