Combo Welder performs high-quality welding using GTAW, SMAW on piping and structural components in live field environments. This role requires strong technical skills, adaptability, and the ability to maintain code-quality welds while working in confined spaces, elevated locations, and under schedule-critical conditions.
ResponsibilitiesWelding & Field Execution
Perform GTAW/SMAW welding in all positions under field restrictions.
Complete welds on carbon steel, stainless steel, and other alloy’s piping per WPS’s requirements.
Execute welds, repairs or others safely and efficiently.
Perform weld prep (when it’s required), fit-up assistance, and final cleanliness in environments with limited workspace.
Maintain consistent weld quality despite wind, weather, humidity, temperature, and restricted access.
Field Safety & Jobsite Compliance
Follow all site-specific safety rules and permits (hot work, confined space, elevated work, etc.).
Identify hazards such as pressure boundaries, stored energy, heat stress, or oxygen-deficient areas.
Properly:
Set up FR (fire resistant) welding screens or hooch’s, fire watches, and spark containment measures. following the site's safety requirements
Use all PPE including appropriate welding clothing, respirators, fall protection, and eye/hand protection
Quality Performance
Produce welds meeting acceptance criteria for VT, RT, UT, PT, or MT as applicable.
Read and follow WPS, P&IDs, ISO drawings, weld maps, and material specs.
Maintain traceability (heat numbers, filler control, joint verification) according to the Welding and Quality Control Department expectations.
Self-inspect welds before QC notification; ensure cleanliness and freedom from discontinuities.
Report weld defects, equipment issues, or deviations immediately.
Productivity & Field Efficiency
Meet or exceed daily weld count and productivity targets set by supervisors.
Adapt to changing job priorities such as emergent repairs or shutdown critical path work.
Work effectively with fitters, riggers, pipe crews, inspectors, and engineering when needed.
Manage welding consumables efficiently, minimize rework, and maintain equipment readiness.
Documentation & Communication
Accurately documented weld numbers, joint completion, and material verification.
Participate in daily toolbox talks, safety briefings, and quality meetings.
Communicate challenges early (access, fit-up issues, equipment damage, consumable needs).
Supporting weld sequencing and field installation planning
Required Critical Skills & specifications
Must pass company-required weld qualification tests by QUAL-SOP-14.5.3
4–7+ years of field welding experience in industrial environments.
Strong understanding of WPS requirements, fillers, interpass temperature control, and heat-affected zones.
Ability to interpret isometric drawings, weld symbols, and field modifications.
Must have experience welding multiple types of pipes like Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, Chrome and other alloys family.
Must be able to assist pipe fitters in pipe installation, preparation, and fabrication while not actively welding.
Possesses the ability to work effectively team up with other employees.
He/She will keep the work area clean and organized.
Must have reliable transportation.
Must be able to work at heights as required.

QualificationsPreferred Additional Qualification
Current Zachry or Zachry ROF’ed employee.
Former experience working with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
Previous experience in this position with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
Experience working as an Industrial Pipe Fitter.
Former experience working on a new construction project.

ZII-001 (2.75”/0.625”) GTAW (ER70S-2) / SMAW (E7018) in the 6GR (restricted position).
ZII-002 (2.75”/0.625”) GTAW (ER70S-2) in the 6GR (restricted position).
