Landscape Construction Project Manager – Role and Responsibilities

Role Summary

To support our continued growth and uphold our standards of craftsmanship and service, Dabney Collins is seeking an experienced Landscape Construction Project Manager. This role will provide field leadership, ensure high-quality project delivery, and mentor team members to achieve optimal performance and professional development.

Core Responsibilities

Project Execution

  • Provide direct field leadership and technical oversight on assigned projects.
  • Ensure project profitability while maintaining company quality standards and client satisfaction.
  • Conduct comprehensive on-site project assessments to evaluate progress, quality, and safety.
  • Develop and implement project-specific strategies, schedules, and work plans.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and specifications to guide field execution.

Estimating and Design Support

  • Identify potential construction challenges early and communicate them to the design and estimating teams.
  • Recommend cost-effective design modifications that preserve design intent and quality.
  • Verify that all project costs are accurately reflected in estimates, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Recognize and communicate any shortfalls or omissions in estimates related to materials or labor.

Field Operations

  • Manage the construction and installation of assigned landscape projects from mobilization through closeout.
  • Plan and allocate labor hours, materials, equipment, and subcontractors for each project.
  • Supervise and schedule the day-to-day activities of one to four crews, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex field challenges in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure proper project sequencing and adherence to construction best practices for each project.
  • Operate tools, small engine equipment, and heavy equipment when needed to support project delivery.
  • Ensure all work activities are carried out in a safe, compliant, and efficient manner, following company safety standards.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal team members in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, serving as the primary point of contact throughout the construction phase.

Quality Assurance and Best Practices

  • Maintain the highest level of workmanship and quality in every aspect of the project, from layout to final punch list.
  • Implement and support continuous improvement processes in field operations and project delivery.
  • Uphold the principle that quality is never sacrificed for speed or convenience.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Minimum of 5 years of landscape project management experience, preferably in residential design-build or landscape construction.
  • Proven ability to multitask and manage 1–4 crews simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in operating power tools, small engine equipment, and heavy equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, masonry, hardscapes, and related landscape construction techniques.
  • Ability to construct and oversee installation of irrigation and drainage systems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with clients.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
