Position Overview
The Self-Contained ESE Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction to students with significant disabilities in a self-contained classroom. This role involves developing individualized learning programs and ensuring the students’ social, emotional, and academic needs are met.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with significant disabilities.
- Provide specialized, individualized, and small-group instruction.
- Collaborate with parents, staff, and specialists to create effective learning strategies.
- Monitor and track student progress in various areas (academic, social, emotional).
- Create a positive, supportive classroom environment that encourages student growth.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and needs.
- Participate in IEP meetings and other team activities.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times.
- Any other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
- Experience teaching students with significant disabilities.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively; sit, stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
This position operates in a professional school environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and instructional materials. Noise level is typically moderate, but can be higher during student-centered activities or events. Occasional local travel for school-related functions may be required.
FLSA ClassificationThis position is classified as Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is in accordance with applicable federal and South Carolina labor laws.
